Costco and Cash

A weird thing happened at Costco today. While paying for my items, (laundry detergent, cereal, Sunny D, etc.) I took 20 bucks out. The cashier handed me my $20 and my receipt and I left.
Luckily, I went directly to the food counter to get the boys some ice cream. I handed the guy my new $20 bill. He looked at it, turned it over, held it up to the light and said "I'm sorry ma'am. This is a fake". WHAT! I stammered that I had just got it inside, it was the cashiers fault, I didn't have any other cash, that's why I had to take cash out at the register. I'm INNOCENT! He still made me take the ice cream away from the kids and go back inside to work it out. That part really bugged me, but whatever.
I went to the customer service counter and explained my situation. She apologized (meanwhile the co-worker next to her couldn't believe it and exclaimed "What the *@%#!" She used the worst word! That made me snap a little and I said something to the effect of, "Excuse me? Please don't say that in front of my kids".
They got the manager, who also apologized, and gave me a real 20. Got my ice creams back and headed home. Not the most dramatic of stories but it had never happened to me so it was pretty freaky. Evidently, this was the 3rd time this week that Costco had received counterfeit money. The manager told me she was going to call the FBI.
Moral of the story, is there one? I don't know. Maybe check your bills as they are handed to you. I don't like to think of what would have happened, had I not tried to spend it right away. Anyway, pretty nutty.
P.S. HAPPY BIRTHDAY COUSIN GREG!!!

But if they called the FBI, wouldn't they eventually come back to YOU....since you are in the counterfeiting business?

Taking the ice cream away from the kids... shame on Costco! That's so mean. Oh well... at least it worked out in the end.

By the way, HI Miles Fam! :o)

Maybe check your bills as they are handed to you? Like I would even know what to check for...maybe if it said "monopoly" or had a picture of Sponge Bob on it then I would recognize a fake, other than that I would be clueless. And as for taking the ice-cream away did they really think that through? If you were a counterfeiter wouldn't they want ice-cream to pacify the kids while they wait for child protective services to pick them up after you got hauled out it handcuffs?? I honestly don't know how people get through their days without me.

That's an adventure, for sure. I think I would be a tad bit annoyed about someone taking ice cream away from my kids. Good for you for saying something to the cusser. I tried that once and the funny teenager just kept it up. Gotta love it.

I am with Becky - it would have to have spongebob on it for me to know it was a fake. Sounds kind of exciting though.
Maybe the FBI will contact you... my husband had to help with an investigation a while back and they gave him an FBI pen for his efforts. Hey - free pen!
