We're back! Are you all dreading a long, drawn out, detailed, description of our weekend? Too bad. We actually didn't do that much. We were fabulously lazy, sleeping in, and doing nothing in general. If there was a theme for the weekend, it was food. We ate some "to die for" food.
Some of you may be surprised, what with our svelte bodies and all, that Trevor and I are fond of food. Fond is a bit of an understatement. Infatuated is a better word. We love food. I think I love it more, because I'm not as biased as Trevor when it comes to food. I love it all equally and will eat everything on my plate as to not make the left over food feel bad. In fact, Trevor won't eat left-overs. Therefore, I love food more. Anyway, here is a brief (hahaha) day by day account of our activities.
~My cutie on the drive up, the ocean is behind him~
Saturday: Got to the hotel, starving, around 5pm and checked in. Tried to find BBQ Tri-tip vendors (Santa Maria is famous for them) on the side of the road. They were all closed up for the night. Instead, went to Rancho Nipomo at the suggestion of the hotel staff. I had the pulled pork, Trevor had a tri-tip sandwich and "Brenda's Potato Salad". I'm not kidding. He even liked it and he only likes his mother's potato salad. The pulled pork was freakin' amazing. So good! I highly suggest you travel the hundreds of miles just to eat there. Seriously. We headed back to the hotel and vegged the rest of the night.
~My new favorite place to eat~This was another BBQ place, kids could play around in this mini western town~
Sunday: Slept in until 9;30am. Ordered room service. That's the first time I've ever done that. I lead a sheltered life. The best part was that the french toast was made out of cinnamon rolls. Mmmmm. Trevor branched out and had eggs benedict. We found the elusive BBQ Tri-tip guys and had a sandwich for lunch. Oh, how we love red meat. We went to a movie and saw "Get Smart". If you're smart, you'll go see it. Pretty dang exciting. Then we had dinner. Ah, dinner. We went to the highly recommended steakhouse Jocko's. I highly recommend it. The steaks are rumored to be better than Ruth's Chris Steakhouse. I can't compare since I've never been to the latter, but man these were the best I've ever had. And HUGE! I had the small portion and it was still 13 ounces and at least 2 inches thick. Trevor's NY Strip was 18 ounces. That's over a pound of meat! No, we didn't finish it. But, breakfast was tasty Monday morning. They BBQ over California Red Oak outside on a mammoth grill. It makes my grill at home look like an easy bake oven. My keyboard is wet with drool. I can actually taste it and feel it dissolve in my mouth. It was so tender. The slightest touch from my fork sent the juices oozing onto my plate. So good it literally hurt. Gina made fun of me when I told her I actually took a picture of my steak. Now you know why. Are you hungry yet?

Monday: Trevor had to work early and I got to sleep in again. I heart sleeping in. I waited at the hotel until he finished around noon. Then we headed up to San Luis Obispo. If anything, it's just fun to say. While he was at his second client, I drove up to see the Hearst Castle. Look it up. It's rad. I'm not going to go into it now. It deserves it's own personal post. It took longer than I thought to get there, so Trevor had to wait an hour for me to come pick him up. Oops. He was shaking from not eating lunch, and it was 5pm. I sped back to Santa Maria. We were going to go to Rancho Nipomo again for that freakin' good pulled pork. Again, Trevor's shaking from starvation. As we pull off the freeway, I asked him how excited he was. We were both so giddy to eat there again. As we pull into the parking lot, we realize, something is amiss. There are no cars there. It's closed on Monday's. We seriously wanted to cry. In and Out never tasted so horrible. The drive home was uneventful, unless you count the two fighter jets being towed down the freeway, with a police escort, who wouldn't allow anyone to pass, and forced us all to go 35 miles an hour. The kids were still up when we got home. It's so flattering to be missed. They were all happy to see me. That's refreshing.
We want to give a big gigantic shout out to Ash and Rob, Mom and Dad, and Gina and Cory for watching the kiddies for us. You don't know how bad we needed this and we truly appreciate it! And Cindy (I'm sure Vance helped...a little) for taking the dogs. Cleaning their ears went above and beyond lady.

Oh man, that whole trip sounds fabulous! I'm missing my hubby right now worse than I was a few minutes ago. And Hearst Castle does rock! We went there on our honeymoon so of course it holds some special memories for us... did I mention Jenni was a honeymoon baby? : o
So glad you enjoyed your trip. And yes, my mouth is watering. I'm presently eating "dinner", if you count Lean Cuisine as dinner that is. Ugh. Can't wait to see you next week! Love you all.
Sounds like a dream vacation - husband, awesome food, no kids. Nice!!
Jay & I are going to see Get Smart tomorrow! Yeah! I heart Steve Carell. (Seriously, Jay thinks I have a crush on him. Little does he know that I actually have a crush on James Marsden. I've got him fooled! MuHAHAHA! Ok, I've said too much.)

Love the red meat good girl for not letting it be a piece of charcoal!! I love Hearst castle too-We were in San Louis Obispo for a week once when Michael was taking Irrigation exams--wish we could have taken ALL the tours.
Oh yes, the "tour de meat". Gotta love it!
Oh a getaway with no kid, I have no real idea of what that is. Especially this week, ha!!
And our house we love food too. Not that you can tell or anything....yeah whatever.
I love hearing about peopling taking vacations on the central coast considering that Morro Bay (Small beach town a couple miles north of San Luis)is where I grew up. Isnt San Luis Obispo great? You seriously took a pic of your steak!? I love it. You know you did that with the full intention of blogging it!! Thats great. Glad you had a good time. As I say: Its not a vacation unless there are no kids.
Yummy- the food looks and sounds delicious. What a fun outing without kids. It's nice to sleep in once in a while.
