School Stuff, A Carson Quote, The Wiener Mobile, And Why Everyone Should Invest In Tub Safety Stick-Ons

Strap yourselves in, I've got a lot to talk about.

Preston was Star of the Week at School. He got to bring in something special everyday and share a bunch of photos of himself from the time he was a baby to the mature being he is today. He loves being the center of attention every once in a while. The "Achievement in Spelling" award was a nice bonus for the end of the week. We're super proud of your aptitude with words bud.

Carson was also the Star of the Week in his class. What are the odds? He was limited to only one picture to share with the class, and it came as no surprise to me that he chose the picture of himself in full Indy attire.

~Carson and the favorite Mrs. Nelson. In his words "She's nicer than Ms. Parsons."

His week ended on a melancholy note, however. His favorite teacher, Mrs. Nelson, moved with her husband to Florida. Carson's original teacher is out for the remainder of the year, due to some unforeseeable mental breakdown (this is an assumption as we are told she is out for "personal" reasons and the fact that she had Carson in her class. I used deductive reasoning). His new teacher seems, for lack of a better phrase, "on the ball". She is outraged at the lack of organization in the classroom and the disruption of the children's kindergarten career. She has vowed to whip the class in shape and have them ready for first grade in the short 6 weeks remaining of the school year. I'm having sudden flashbacks of the book "Miss Nelson is Missing". It seems so fitting.

~Mrs. Nelson and her biggest fans.~

I do have one quick Carson quote that has absolutely nothing to do with school. Carson was caught in a lie the other day. If you know our parenting style, you know that lying is just not tolerated. Spankings are the consequence and Trevor was in his room discussing the matter when I joined them. Trevor finished his lecture and told our boy to lay across his bed when Carson looked at me and then back to Trevor. Something seemed to dawn on him and he turned to his dad and said, with a look of absolute hope on his face, "can Mom do it?". We choked back the chuckles and Trevor wrapped up his punishment and sent him to bed. I'm feeling pretty discouraged at my lack of skill when it come to producing a stinging bottom. Ah, well.

These pictures will speak for themselves. We were lucky enough to have the Oscar Meyer Wiener mobile visit our local grocery store. Super random funness.

And finally...Why everyone should invest in tub safety stick-ons. Yesterday, I was finishing up my hair for church while Trevor was in the shower. I unplugged my flat-iron and went to go get Will an outfit. When I came back, I discovered that I had unwittingly dropped the flat-iron cord within proximity of William's ever reaching grasped. He had pulled the hot flat-iron down and was holding onto it. Now I'm not one who panics or freaks when my kids are in harm's way but this one made my heart stop. I squealed and ran to him. My noise scared him and he dropped the iron on his little foot. Now you're probably wondering what this has to do with the tub stick-ons. I'm getting to that part. Well, my little squeal didn't only scare William. As I said before, I don't freak when my kids are in harms way or even when they do get themselves injured. The fact that I actually made a panicking sound alerted Trevor and he stepped a little to hastily in the shower to see what was the matter. He lost his footing on the slippery shower floor (he was in the sudsy state at the time) fell head first into the shower door and flopped soaking wet, soapy, and all sorts of naked onto the bathroom floor.

I bit back the hysterical giggles that were forcing their way up my throat and continued to attend the baby. I ran his little foot under water for several minutes and gave his little piggies a few sprays of Dermoplast. I was, unfortunately, expected to conduct the hymns in sacrament meeting and had to make a hasty retreat with the other 3 kids to church and left Trevor to finish getting ready as well as offering continued comfort to Will. He assured me they would be right behind me.

Sacrament meeting came and went and Trevor never showed up. Figuring the baby was too inconsolable to bring to church, I didn't worry too much about it. See, I get over things pretty fast.

We got home from church and Trevor met me at the door, clutching his hand. "I need to go to the doctor. I think I broke my wrist."

Now, we've established that I don't panic and sometimes, especially when it comes to Trevor, I tend to brush things off. I examined his wrist and saw no evident swelling or discoloration. I assured him that he probably just sprained it. He assured me that he couldn't move his wrist. I decided to let him error on the side of caution.

An Urgent Care visit and several X-rays later, we have a broken wrist. Luckily, it's his right hand and Trevor is left-handed. Unluckily, he's an accountant and the 10-keypad is like an extension of his right arm. He has to wear a splint until the swelling goes down and then he'll be in a cast (he's hoping it'll be Nebraska red) for 4-6 weeks. Awesome.

~All splinted up.~

In other awesome news, this house has sold and we have to move by the end of May, approximately 4 weeks from now.

How you described the tub incident is hilarious. Do you hear me laughing??? I know that's probably not funny b/c he got a broken wrist, but man that was funny.

Don't feel bad Heather, I didn't hear about it until Monday when I called and Trevor happened to answer the phone. I assumed "everyone" knew about it when I called Becky and Courtney to tell them, and they already knew! Great post though Brenda! Congratulations to Preston and Carson (sorry about the spanking incident tho), whats a parent to do?

Oh Trevor! I think you are as accident prone as me! YIKES! Hope it is healing fast and you are 10 keying soon! Tell Preston and Carson CONGRATS for me! Way to go boys! I have never had a kid win student of the month. They must not do that at our school....right? Miss you guys!

Oh no! Hope everyone heals quickly, except that it is so nice to hear that other families have those hilarious circus stories too. I saw the reader's digest version on facebook, giggled to myself, but this account is much better! So where will you guys be moving to?

I don't know how I missed this post!

Anyway... sympathies to Trevor. That really stinks. (Funny description of the incident, though!) :)
